Backatcha re: Happy 4th July, Russ. "I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy" & "God Bless America" make my heart sing. Trump aside, I'm damn proud to be an American. 1/Lt Brown, 82nd Airborne Div.

“Still, the idea that half the country says they’re not proud of America is startling“

Please review the Gallup source closely, only 9% are not at all proud, and 11% are only a little proud.

I, too, am proud to be an American, but hardly confident in this America. We are near a tipping point.

I am not as eloquent as Russ, my imagery less clear than Abe and Jerry. But I offer this image - close your eyes and there it is - Alligator Alcatraz. Tell me we aren’t at a tipping point, please. Convince me, please. And make that image go away.

Good piece as always Russ. Fits nicely with your Southport 4th of July photos and post on FB. In my opinion, there’s a lot of wrongs happening now that will need to be made right up the road. But we are a brash and gnarly country. It will be done.
